Run for the Cure

FriesenPress employees laced up their shoes to support the CIBC Run for the Cure. A team of eleven participated in the 5km run/walk around the University of Victoria, helping to support the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.

“The numbers are in! We're thrilled to report that 2,897 participants in Victoria helped raise $342,588 for the breast cancer cause. Across BC, an estimated 16,416 participants raised $2.6 million, contributing to the national total of $27 million.

Through advances in medical research and treatment, in part made possible by initiatives like the CIBC Run for the Cure, the mortality rate from breast cancer has declined by more than 42 per cent in the last 25 years. But with one in nine Canadian women diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, there is much more for us to learn and do to help decrease the incidence and further improve survival rates. The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation is the leading national volunteer-based organization in Canada dedicated to creating a future without breast cancer.”
